The Beginning
Jennifer and I were meant to be together. I
know that may sound weird, but fate even attempted to put us together
several years before it eventually did. Her best friend was dating one
of my best friends, and they attempted (unsuccessfully) to get us to
hook up. We then met at Marshall
and things began badly for the chances of us dating. She thought I
was just some weird guy, and had a crush on a friend of mine (who we
later discovered was like a distant relative of hers...she was glad THAT
hook-up didn't happen!). We eventually ended up dating, and that
whole sage from meeting to dating could be a movie. So could most
of our relationship. However, that is not what you are hear for,
and it is not what you will learn. All you need to know is there
were seven of us: me, Jennifer, Big Dawg, Jackie, Dale, Alice, and
Tianna. I ended up with Jennifer, Dawg with Jackie, and Dale with Alice.
Jennifer and I are the only ones still together. I said all along
I got the best of the group anyway.
The Decision
After nearly four years of dating I decided it was
time. I think one of the first things we were asked after we hooked up
was when we were getting married...but that is typical for most
relationships. However, for me marriage is not something to be
taken lightly and was not going to be something I jumped into. It was
going to be something I knew I would be happy with the rest of my life,
because I had no intention of letting it come to an end. So...I decided,
and a friend (Jennfier Stewart) and I decided to go to the
Huntington Mall. On the
bus, I told her I needed to go look for something for Jennifer.
She jokingly said "What, a ring?" I just got quite....and her
response was priceless. She ended up getting a
Zales credit card to pay for the
ring (because I wouldn't have the money for a few days AFTER I needed to
propose). Then I just had to plan out the proposal. It
wasn't going to be a simple "Will you marry me" at a restaurant or
anything common...it had to be special. So, I talked to a friend,
and it was.
The Proposal
I was the advisor of
SAPB at
Marshall at the time, and a
friend we had made, Brian Brushwood,
was coming to perform his Bizarre Magic routine. He and I worked out how
to do the proposal as part of the show with Jennifer having no clue.
I told her he was doing a new trick and wanted her to do it, since he
needed a friend he could trust. She needed to be wearing a ring
(which she almost never did) and needed it videotaped with her awesome
digital camera, a
SONY CD-Mavica. Even when I got her on stage, she had no clue.
It was amazing, and probably the best moment of my life. I don't
really think describing it to you is enough, so all you have to do is
Save Target and you will be able to watch it for yourself. It was
an amazing evening.
The Wedding
So it came to the wedding, and what an awesome
wedding it was! I was looking a bit like the
Kingpin, and we did things differently. A friend, Chris
Markley, got ordained just to marry us. I walked out escorted by my mom,
because the grrom should get to walk the aisle too. I came out to
my aunt playing the theme from Superman on her trumpet. It was an
awesome afternoon, and one that neither of us will forget. As with any
wedding their was a fair share of problems, but we made sure it all
worked out and we had a great day surrounded by friends and family.
