GRC monitors early departures and expects >95% response rate on the
Wednesday night evaluation. As this conference is currently on
probation (due to low attendance at a previous meeting), it is
especially important that conferees plan to arrive in time for Sunday
evening and not depart
until Friday morning if at all possible.
Business
Meeting
Wednesday, June 29
7:00 PM
Agenda
1. Conversion of conference to a biennial schedule (i.e., next
conference in Summer 2007).
2.
Election of Vice-Chair
for Summer 2007 conference.
3. Evaluation of conference (it is very
important that all conferees complete an evaluation).
Poster
Sessions & Social Hours
Monday & Tuesday & Wednesday (NOTE: Wed night is a
new addition!)
4:30 - 6:00 PM & 9:45 PM - 11:00 PM
•Attendees are
encouraged to submit a poster
abstract when applying to the conference.
•Poster session topics need not be aligned with one of the oral
sessions, but should relate to the overall conference
theme.
•Posters will be available for viewing from 4:30 - 6:00 pm each
afternoon and again from
9:45 - 11:00 pm. Authors are requested to be present
during 9:45 - 11:00 pm.
•Poster presenters will be assigned to either Monday or Tuesday or
Wednesday.
•Poster sessions will be coordinated by the conference vice-chair, Dr. Chris Bauer.
•Social hours (snacks & drinks) will take place during the poster
sessions. Conferees usually contribute $10 cash to cover the costs (we
will 'pass the hat' on Sunday night at the opening session.)
Participation
The value of the Gordon
Conferences lies in the
opportunity for extended discussion and exchanges of ideas about the
conference
topics. For that reason, attendance is limited to 130, and participants
are expected to stay for the entire conference. We encourage attendance
by two-year college faculty, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows,
and members of minority groups underrepresented in the chemical
sciences.
Conference Fee
GRC has established a fixed fee for all participants (speakers,
discussion leaders, conferees) at each conference. The fixed fee will
be charged
regardless of the length of time a participant attends the Conference.
The fixed fee covers registration, room, and meals (Sunday dinner
through
Friday breakfast).
Fees for summer 2005 at Connecticut College are $760 for a single room
/$720 for a double room. Please note that if the final pre-paid
registration is postmarked at least 3 weeks prior to the meeting, a $50
discount may be taken on the fixed fee (discounted to $710
single/$670 double). If a discount is appropriate, it must be taken at
the time of early registration.
Please note: Any conferee receiving travel support from GRC may not be
reimbursed for rental car expenses. All speakers and discussion leaders
receiving GRC support (conference fee and/or travel) must comply with
the 24 hour rule and depart no sooner than 24 hours after the
conclusion of their session. There are no exceptions to these two
rules. In addition, any conferee receiving travel support from GRC must
use a domestic (U.S.) airline.
Dormitory
Rooms & Computer Access
•We have not been assigned a specific dorm yet, but the dorm will be
air-conditioned.
•Connecticut College has a computer room set up for attendees with
computers and printers so that conferees can read and print email.
Wireless internet will also be available in this computer laboratory
and in the meeting rooms. Conferees will have access to the campus
network through Ethernet in their individual dorm rooms.
