About
the design
The
Gallery Players' Theatre
is a small, Off-Off-Broadway house with a hundred seats and a
stage that measures about 30' wide by 18' deep by 12' high. Not
alot of room for scenery.
After
finding a volume of Huck Finn with the original pen and ink illustrations
by Charles Kemble, I thought it might be fun and cost-effective
to use illustrated pages of the original as the scenery for Big
River. Four traveling panels acted as a show curtain, allowing
action downstage and scene changes upstage. When opened fully,
they also created a false proscenium
