About
the Design
I've
been a huge fan of this musical since I heard the original cast
recording with Gertrude Lawrence. I think the score is fantastic
and the structure of the piece is theatre at its best.
The
musical is set in 1941 and centers around Liza Elliot, a magazine
publisher who's plagued with indecision. She undergoes psychoanalysis
to find the root of her problems. Her nightmarish dreams are revealed
through musical numbers. The design draws upon elements of Jung,
Freud, Magritte and Dali.
