DESIGN APPROACH

Because Mabel's story is told with continual fluid shifts from present to past, the problem is changing the feeling of location a vista within a few lines of dialogue.

Our solution was to avoid realistic depictions of locale and go for mood. The walls tracked and different comination of sheer drapes flew in to create new stage pictures. The floor and walls were painted in loose watercolor washes in the style of John Singer Sargent.
