social change

A major focus of our work is the examination of dynamic stereotypes, or beliefs that a group has changed from the past and will continue to change in the future. Currently, we are exploring the antecedents and consequences of stereotype dynamism versus stability, with the goal of understanding how the perceived mobility of social groups influences affective, cognitive, and behavioral processes relevant to social change.

Current projects

Effects of social change on the self This research examines how learning about social change influences people's own attitudes and behaviors about careers - that is, when your gender group is entering nontraditional roles, do you accommodate to that change? We are currently working on identifying the conditions under which people will accommodate or not.

Gendered images in popular music, 1950 -2003 This content analysis examines how images of men and women have shifted or remained stable over the latter half of the 20th century.
