The Department of Geology houses a suite of analytical facilities, including AFM, direct current plasma emission spectrometry (Beckman Spectraspan V), high performance liquid chromatography, multi-collector thermal ionization mass spectrometry, drilling rig and X-ray diffraction facilities (both powder and single crystal).
The Microbiology and Zoology departments provide us with access to flow cytometry facility containing a FACScan flow cytometer. The FACScan (Becton Dickinson Immunocytometry Systems) is a fixed alignment, benchtop analyzer that is capable of performing up to 4-colour immunofluorescence analysis as well as cell cycle/DNA studies. The departments also provide access to common facilities such as scintillation and gamma counters, radio analytic imaging, ultra centrifugation, and phosphor imagers.
The departments of Paper Science and Engineering, Chemistry and Geology share a BET surface area analyzer for a wide variety of applications.
