The Marjorie Cook Diversity in African American Poetry (DAAP) Festival and Conference will be held in Miami University's Marcum Center. Festivities commence on Thursday evening with a cash bar from 5-7 pm, followed by opening remarks and two featured readings. We, therefore, urge all conferees to arrive on Thursday afternoon between noon and four pm, at which time we will be running free van service from both the Cincinnati and Dayton airports. We will also have van service from both airports on Friday morning. Vans will return conferees to both airports on Sunday morning.
Conference Fee
The conference fee is $75. It includes free admission to all readings, coffee, soft drinks and bottled water throughout the day Friday and Saturday, a full lunch both Friday and Saturday, dinner on Saturday, and a concluding dance on Saturday night.
Accommodations
We've reserved all 92 rooms at the Marcum Center and the Miami Inn, which is also on the campus and within walking distance of the Marcum Center. These are both quite nice. The cost is $85 for either a single or double, and includes a decent continental breakfast. Call 513-529-6911 to make reservations. Be sure to mention the Cook Conference for the group rate.
More local hotel & motel information is available on Miami Univerisity's visitor's website and from the Oxford Chamber of Commerce. For anyone who is arriving with a car and would like to save some money, these might be an option.
Travel Information
Oxford is located 35 miles northwest of Cincinnati and 45 miles southwest of Dayton. Fly into either the Cincinnati or Dayton airports; the fares are often vastly different, so you might want to check both. We're about an hour's drive from either airport.
Directions to campus, with maps, are available.
