Hart" Subject: Upcoming opportunity for students RE: Student Employment Opportunity Information - March 29-30, 2006 Dear Colleagues, The Department of Geology is pleased to announce that representatives from Schlumberger (www.slb.com) and WesternGeco ( www.westerngeco.com) , two major international employers in the oil and gas industry, will be coming to campus at the very end of March. This opportunity for students to learn about and apply for internship and permanent employment positions is made possible by the efforts of 1994 Miami University Geology graduate Melanie Blind who currently is a Project Manager for WesternGeco. Although we are still working out some of the details, please see the attached file and the points that follow for preliminary information. 1. Both organizations are seeking candidates for positions in a number of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) areas. 2. Both organizations offer very competitive starting salaries, worldwide opportunities, and considerable upward mobility. 3. The current low number of STEM graduates nationwide means that abundant opportunities are available NOW. 4. Current juniors, seniors, graduate students and interested faculty are encouraged to participate in the planned activities: Wednesday, March 29; open session at 7:30 p.m. in 10 Shideler Thursday, March 30; one-on-one discussions/interviews for students from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (scheduling protocol to be announced at a later date) I ask that you make this information available to students and faculty in your department/program. Please encourage interested parties to spend some time on the websites provided in order to gain answers to general questions. I will keep you informed as final details are confirmed and will provide reminders for you to share with your students as the time draws nearer. Please contact me if you have any questions, and thank you for your assistance in advertising this important opportunity. Regards, Bill Dr. William K.
