Down Time
I am going to be down for a couple of days to get caught up on work. I will leave you with a couple of things to think about or check out.
First, if you want to get a sense of just how powerful the elite media are, then reflect on the uproar that has resulted from Dana Priest's story on the deplorable conditions at Walter Reed hospital, as well as the VA system in general. Heads have rolled in the military and in the Department of Defense. Priest has been making the rounds on the Sunday talk shows, NPR, cable news, etc. Many wonder why we are only now learning about this travesty and not earlier. The reason? Because the elite media--of which the Washington Post is clearly one--have neglected to cover it despite stories that have run detailing these problems. Far be it for the WP, or the NY Times, or ABC, etc. to dignify a story that ran on Salon.com two years ago, detailing all the problems at the VA.
Second, Vanity Fair has a story by David Margolick on six generals who dared criticize Donald Rumsfeld and his strategy in Iraq.
Enjoy.
