RIP Wall Street Journal
I have had a subscription to the Wall Street Journal for three years now, and I have long regarded it as the best newspaper in the country. Aside from that crazy Op/Ed page, it can't be beat. It has a fantastic front section, it runs a great Thursday section on technology, with a Walt Mossberg column that tests all the latest gizmos, and has a Tuesday health section written by a high school friend of mine. It has recently started a new thing where it places a summary of interesting articles from other newspapers and magazines, including liberal publications such as The Nation.
But today, the family that owned the paper for more than a 100 years chucked principles right out the door and sold it to Beelzebub himself, Rupert Murdoch. Murdoch has stated that he would not shell out the $5 billion just to wreck it, but in fact that is precisely what he will do. So after three years of a relationship with that paper, I will bid farewell. I simply can no longer subscribe to anything owned by Murdoch. I hope a lot of others will feel the same way. One thing that does give me joy is the major screw job that editorial page is about to get. Serves them right.
