A Head Scratcher

I am scratching my head over the uproar involving Bill "Willie" Cunningham and his remarks directed at Barack Obama specifically and the Democrats generally, all before Senator McCain took the stage today in Cincinnati to give a speech.

If you are not from this area, Bill Cunningham is a wannabe Rush Limbaugh with a long history of idiotic remarks and behavior all the while from his perch daily at WLW Radio--the "Nation's Station" because at one time it served as the nation's emergency broadcast system, able to pump information to all corners of the US.

Cunningham craves attention, and despite working at a radio station daily for the past couple of decades, and believes that the liberal media won't allow any conservative voices to thrive. Irony is way above his thinking capacity. He has suggested in the past to round up homeless people in Cincinnati and truck them to the surrounding suburbs, he has spewed racist and sexist venom, and should be the reason why WLW is fighting to keep its license, but that is too much to ask. He has also stood in for Rush Limbaugh when he takes leave as well as been a guest on Rush's talk show. Cunningham has also been a talking head on such Fox News shows as Bill O'Reilly. I say all this because the McCain campaign is claiming that they were not aware of Cunningham and the sort of remarks he might make. If that were true--if his campaign is that unaware--then McCain probably should do away with his advisers.

But maybe McCain doesn't listen to radio? Rush has not been kind to him, so maybe he tunes it out. Bill Cunningham also shows up prominently on television, at places that I am sure McCain or his advisers have seen him. He showed up recently on Hannity's America, where he referred to Obama by using his full name. Hannity asks him about the fight between Obama and Bill Clinton during the South Carolina Primary, and Cunningham answers:

Sean, I have had a couple individuals tell me after the so-called white voters in Iowa and New Hampshire weighed in heavily especially in Iowa for Barack Hussein Obama, and then in New Hampshire. Hillary, kind of a little bit of a comeback. There has been a conscious effort by Bubba Clinton to smear and to slime Barack Hussein Obama on the race issue. The most dangerous place to be in politics is cursed and I'm sure he knows, is between a desired goal ad the Clintonistas, because you will get run over...

Twice in the same paragraph, nuzzled in there with reference to "Bubba" Clinton and "Clintonistas." This is the level of discourse with this guy, and the McCain folks claim they didn't know what they were getting?

All is well and good that McCain steps up and apologizes, but he should not insult our intelligence for disbelieving what came out of Cunningham's mouth.
