Several years before my father was born his mother, Carrie, became very ill. The family moved to Arizona for Carrie's health. My father believes that she had TB. While they were in Arizona, they became associated with the Christian Science belief and followed this religion from then forth. When they returned to Batesville, IN, they began a Christian Science following and developed a very small church. My father was raised as a follower of Mary Baker Eddie and the Christian Science religion. His sister Desma, became very ill, and because it was their belief in the power of prayer to heal, did not seek medical assistance for her. She died of a ruptured appendix. My father also told me that his mother died in an automobile accident. Her husband, Harry George John Peetz, was driving from Harrison, IN back to Batesville, IN.
