Annotated Bibliography

for your final project

in English 441A/541A

Note: Because I am running behind in returning assignments to you, this bibliography will not be due until October 31, 1996.
Definition of Terms:
Bibliography:
A bibliography is a list of works that you intend to read or have read on a specific subject or set of subjects.
Annotation:
To annotate something is to provide more information about it; an annotated bibliography will describe the subject of each book and perhaps even quote from it.

To produce an annotated bibliography for 10/31:

1. Go to the library with the subject of your final project in mind. Are you going to write a research paper, or do a web page on sensibility? on English country houses? on the Ode in English literature during the Romantic period?

2. Using the handouts and the know-how you got from our session in the library, do research on Sherlock, on OhioLink, and using electronic resources. Also, be sure to ask the reference librarians to help you--even if you think you already have everything you need, they sometimes find things you could not.

3. Check out books, photocopy articles, etc., and begin reading the materials you have.

4. List the books and articles you will read in a bibliography using MLA format: use the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (King Reference LB2369.G53 1995) or the MLA Style Manual (King Reference PN147.A28 1985), both of which are available in the reference section of King library.

Note that using proper MLA format is part of what it takes to get a good grade on this project!
