.: Brief Overview

Gamma Ray Bursts have been argued over for decades in the world of science.  Their location, reason for existing, and even mere possibility of existing have been quibbled over by many a person in science.  As the diagram below hints at, a gamma-ray burst can begin with the merger of two neutron stars or the collapse of a massive star.  This forms a black hole that is surrounded by a disk full of different materials.  The pressure builds and it ends with a beautiful explosion and the material is shot out in the form of jets at the speed of light.   This explosion is more massive than we can possibly imagine.  These explosions could have catastrophic results if they were to go off near our planet, but thankfully they are at distances measured to be thousands of light-years away.
