Readings and discussions, in Italian, on Italian emigration and on the Italian American experience.  This is a one-credit course taught in Italian that complements the English-taught ITL 222 ITALIAN AMERICAN CULTURE (3 credits).  Students who wish to have ITL 222 count toward a minor in Italian must concurrently enroll in this course, ITL 222.1, thus earning 4 credits altogether toward the Italian minor.  Prerequisite: ITL 202 or 205, or the equivalent.

Fifty minutes per week will be devoted to discussing Italian American culture and pertinent readings.  All readings, assignments, and discussions will be in Italian.

PARTICIPATION: Active, informed participation in the course is very important, and is worth 100 points.  Five points will be deducted for each absence beyond two.

READING/ORAL ASSIGNMENTS:  All students will read all the assigned readings (photocopy packet) before class.  One student will lead class discussion on a topic of one of the readings assigned for that day, clarifying or supplementing its content with information gathered from other sources (books, encyclopedias, articles, web sites, etc.), and soliciting responses from the other students.  You may use visual and audio aids to enhance your presentation (e.g. pictures, maps, timelines, music, etc., but they are not required).  Each student will do two 10-15-minute presentations during the semester.  Each will be worth 50 points.

TESTS: --periodic pop quizzes on that day’s readings, collectively worth 100 points (quizzes cannot be made up; the lowest score, or a zero from a missed quiz, will be dropped);

--mid-term exam, 100 points;

--comprehensive final exam, 200 points.

GRADING: The standard breakdown: 93-100%=A, 90-92%=A-; 87-89%=B+, 83-86%=B, 80-82%=B-, etc., based on the following categories:
