Fort Scott Camps Website

Introduction
Welcome to the Fort Scott Camps website, which was established in 1996. We have over 300 Fort Scotters
on our e-mail database list and have received tens of thousands of visitors since the website's inception! This site is dedicated to the memory of Fort Scott
Camps, Cincinnati, Ohio, which closed following the summer season of
1988. Recently (since late 2005), the camp property has been transformed into a large residential complex (see new photos). Those who had the fortune of working, living, and loving there
will never forget it and what it means. Long live missed bedchecks,
WPs, raids, rodeos, war nights, and trips to Les Flicks for Burger Beer.
Recently, there has been interest in seeing what camp looked like from the air. Thus, I've added some new images to the photo gallery page taken from Google, which are a few years old. As a result, you can see, roughly, what camp looked like from the air when its buildings were still there. I uploaded static images because, eventually, the Google database will be updated with "new" photos that do not have the old camp buildings.
Fort Scott is now closed. However, sometimes visitors ask where they can send their kids to camp today. Two possibilities are Camp Ernst (in Northern KY, near the CVG airport) and Camp Wyadot (in the Hocking Hills, south of Columbus, OH). These listings should not be viewed as an endorsement, but both of these camps are headed by people with Fort Scott ties and both feature long-established histories and ACA accreditation.
Finally, at long last, I've had an opportunity to convert some of my old videotapes to digital files, including one that chronicles "A Day in the Life at Fort Scott Camps," as seen through the somewhat languid eyes of the Swimming Department in 1986. John "Jack" Stenger and Eric "Capt. Fun" Frayer oversaw the video project, and I recently posted the video (broken down into 17 segments ranging in length from 2:53 to 8:30) on YouTube. You can visit the Fort Scott Camps video page to view each of them, reliving moments in the messhall, visiting with Doc in the infirmary, hanging out in the main office, and even attending a liturgical celebration. Please note that the quality is variable -- it's 20+ year-old videotape of circa-1986 camcorder technology. Enjoy this special trip down memory lane!
