Indiana University (1991-95)
I spent four years at Indiana University earning my Ph.D. in social psychology, working with Jim Sherman (my primary advisor), Russ Fazio, Ed Hirt, and Igor Gavanski. Bloomington was a great place to live, and I learned a tremendous amount at IU (except, perhaps, about how to dress).

During this time, I worked with a great bunch of undergraduates who were the members of my first lab group. Below is a photo taken at our last lab meeting (at Yogi's) in Spring 1995 (yes, I did own more than one shirt in grad school). I've kept in touch with them since leaving IU (e.g., Stacy is a florist in Columbus, OH; Amy got her Ph.D. in industrial-organizational psychology at NYU and now lives in NJ).

In June of 1995, on a very hot day in Bloomington, I received by Ph. D. (below, Jim and I outside the football stadium where the graduation ceremony was held).

Penn State (1995-1997)
My first academic position was at The Pennsylvania State University, in beautiful (and bucolic) State College, PA. Below were photos taken during my first year at Penn State (before the many years of being a professor began to take their toll).

While at Penn State, I worked with many great graduate students (Jill Leibold, Melissa Ferguson, John George, Deidra Schleicher, John Wall, and Kris Eyssell), and I'm still in touch with several of them. Below is a photo taken of all of us at the 1st (and only) meeting of the Keystone Social Psychologists in the Spring of 1997. Since then, several of them have moved on to academic positions (e.g., Melissa is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Cornell University, Deidra is an Assistant Professor of Management at Purdue University, Kris is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Gettysburg College).

Michigan State (1997-2000)
Next, I moved to Michigan State University, inheriting Galen Bodenhausen's old office (see below, taken in the fall of 1997).

At MSU, I became a huge Spartan sports fan (e.g., Men's basketball National Championship in 2000, watching them beat Florida in the 2000 Citrus Bowl). During my years at Michigan State, I worked with more great grad students (e.g., Jill Leibold, Jeanette Renaud, Bill Jellison, Keith Niedermeier) and great undergrads as well, including some who went on to earn Ph.D.s in social psychology at top universities (e.g., Kristy Dean, Amy Johnson, Marlone Henderson). In fact, Kristy is now an assistant professor of psychology at Cal State San Bernadino (Ph.D., Northwestern) and Marlone is an assistant professor of psychology at the Univ. of Chicago (Ph.D., NYU). Below is a photo taken at the Conference on the Self, which was held in September of 1999.
In 2000, my first "wire-to-wire" graduate student, Jill Leibold, received her Ph. D. at Michigan State (below, taken at her graduation ceremony in May). Jill currently is a very successful trial consultant in Los Angeles, CA.

Later, in 2003, my second wire-to-wire advisee, Jeanette Renaud, received her Ph. D. from Michigan State (below, taken May 2003). Currently, Jeanette is a very successful research analyst in Atlanta, GA.

Miami University (2000-present)
Since 2000, I've been a professor at Miami University, returning to my hometown of Cincinnati, OH.

While at Miami, I've been very fortunate to work with more excellent graduate students (e.g., Robert "BJ" Rydell, Sharin Green, Laura Strain, Christina Brown) and impressive undergraduates as well, some of whom are pursuing Ph.D.s in social psychology (e.g., Vicki DeSensi, Chris Jones) at places such as Indiana and Ohio State.
We've been very productive at Miami, primarily because of our excellent lab groups (see photos below from across the years).

In May 2005, my first Miami wire-to-wire student, BJ Rydell, graduated (below, from the graduation). Beginning in the fall of 2008, BJ will be an assistant professor of psychology at Indiana Univ.

In June 2006, we were at the Duck Conference on Social Cognition, Buck Island, NC.

In June 2007, BJ Rydell, Melissa Ferguson (my student at Penn State), Jim Sherman, and I attended the Duck Conference on Social Cognition, Buck Island, NC.
