How Writing Means

There's more than one way to write, and it's often the writing process that determines the success of a creative work as much as the content of the work. To write effectively, then, it's worthwhile to think about more than just what you write, but how you write—to play with the writing process and adjust it to specific writing situations.

It's also worth a writer's time to take a step back from writing and think about other big-picture ideas that influence a work, such as the publishing process, so-called "writer's block," and the writing life.

The purpose of the Start Playing pages is to draw attention to the numerous facets of writing behind and outside of the content of a work. In the near future, this page will feature ideas, questions, quotations, and suggestions designed to provoke reflection on the writing process, the craft of writing, the writing life, the business of writing, and other related issues.
