Graduate Students

Patrick Mineo, BS
Mammalian Muscle Thermogenesis
I am interested in the physiological mechanisms that allow animals to survive environmental stress (ie. temperature, energy availability).  Research will utilize mice lacking functional brown adipose tissue as a model to investigate the role of muscle metabolism in cold acclimation.

Carrie Sgueo, BS
Seasonality in Avian Energetic Physiology
My research deals with avian energetics and seasonal physiology.  The purpose of my research is to investigate the differences in the daily energy expenditure of the Northern Cardinal during the winter and summer seasons.  I am interesting in the energetic costs of thermoregulation during harsh winter conditions, in comparison to the summer breeding season.
