INTRODUCTION.
During the third week in the field I want you to observe the verbal interactions
between the teachers and students.Chapter
9 in our McDevitt/Ormrod text book focuses on socio-emotional development
of children.In their discussion
of Erikson’s theory they point out his 8 stages of development.Erikson’s
fourth stage, “Industry vs Inferiority” is a major focus of Middle
Childhood, and is even sometimes referred to as the School Age stage. This
is a time when feedback about a student’s performance or productd might
have a significant impact on a child.Therefore,
what I would like you to observe is events where the teacher is feeding
back information to the students.Verbal
interchanges about a child’s recitations might be important ones to observe.Another
possibility might be how a teacher reports back information such as a test.Other
children might also be a source of feedback for a child.Pay
attention to student/student interteractions, as well.Throughout
this third week in the field try to observe these interactions between
the teacher andchildren.When
they occur try to describe the behavior setting in which they occurred
(like the 2nd field assignment), and the reactions of the student,
as well.TRY TO CAPTURE AT LEAST
2 HOURS OF OBSERVATION THROUGHOUT THE 3RD WEEK!
[DON’T INCLUDE
THESE INSTRUCTIONS IN YOUR REPORT!!!!]
Below is a form that I want you to use as a template for this assignment.
Merely highlight, copy, and paste it into your word processor. Use
the template to write out the assignment. Have the assignment completed
after the 3rd week in the field and "highlight/cut/paste" it into the message
window of our Online Discussion Site as Field #3. Also, I want you
to print it out and turn it in when you return to campus for our Monday
class on 3-31-2003.
