Cooperative Lesson
EDP 621, Summer 2001
by
Carrie Engel
Grade Level: First Grade
Objective: Students will learn more about
their classmates through a game.
Materials: Picture Cards
Procedure:
1. Students will be given a
picture card.
2. They have to find the
card that has the same beginning sound as someone else in the room. This will
be their partner.
3. Once paired up, they
must talk about things they have in common.(Ex. Favorite animal, Favorite
color, Favorite TV show, Number of siblings, etc.) Then they join arms.
4. Once every pair has
joined arms, one group will start by saying one thing that was the same about
them. If another group has the same commonality, they will join the arms of
that group. Then that group will say something that was the same about them and
another group will join arms with them. This will continue until everyone has
joined arms. If there is a group at the end, we will come up with ways that
they are the same.
5. When everyone has joined
arms, we will sit down and talk about what we learned from the activity. (We
are all the same, although we are different.)
Evaluation: There will not be a formal
evaluation. I will be looking for cooperation between the groups and
participation from everyone. I also will be listening to what they contribute
to the group discussion after the game is over.
