LESSON PLAN
EDP 621, Summer, 2001
Tina Davis
Grade
Level: Kindergarten
Time Period: As long
as interest lasts.
Objective: The
students will form a circle, holding hands. They will work together to pass a
hoola hoop around the circle, without breaking the chain.
Materials: One hoola
hoop per group of children.
Procedure:
1. Gather students
together.
2. Form a circle with the
children, holding hands.
3. Place the hoola hoop
across your body, resting it on one side of your neck.
4. The teacher begins the
cooperative game by moving the hoola hoop over her body in order to pass it on
to the next child.
5. Players must not break
the chain while passing the hoola hoop around the circle.
6. Continue the game until
everyone has had a turn, and then reverse the order of passing and play again.
Evaluation: Observe
how the students work together to pass the hoola hoop around the circle.
Encourage them to problem-solve and help each other by lifting arms or bending
heads to facilitate movement.
*Please note: As a
Kindergarten teacher, I play this game several times at the beginning of school with my students
to solidify my "we all work together" philosophy. It works and the
children LOVE it!
