KAPALUA -- A returning event will show participants Hawaii's many environmental treasures, with the hope they'll take a personal interest in protecting them for the future.
The second annual Earth Maui Nature Summit will be held from Aug. 27 to 31 in Kapalua. This year's theme is "Na Iewe Moku O Kakou" (Our Island Home Lands).
This year's conference features hikes and other wildlife tours and activities, panel discussions and environmental presentations. Most of the events are held in Kapalua, and many are free.
Presented by the Kapalua Nature Society, the summit supports the organization's goal of promoting awareness and appreciation of Maui's natural and cultural treasures, and involving the public in preserving Hawaii's natural legacy.
Opening the summit on Wednesday, Aug. 27, are an Earth Maui Tree Planting and Kahakuloa tour.
