New Faculty Teaching Enhancement Program (NFTEP)

  • NFTEP provides an opportunity for Miami tenure track and visiting faculty to engage in a one-semester series of seminars, workshops, and activities about teaching and learning. The Program is designed to enhance teaching interest, knowledge, practice, and effectiveness. This group will form a community of new-faculty teaching scholars. Throughout the first semester, there will be a seminar every two or three weeks for you to select from. Presentation times will vary to provide opportunities for all to attend some sessions.
  • Participation in NFTEP requires attendance at 8 seminars, and may include up to 4 at Miami's national Lilly Conference on College Teaching, held in the fall, providing an opportunity for participants to meet and engage nationally known teacher-scholars. Complimentary registration and meals at the conference are provided. Participants will produce a teaching project, usually a revised syllabus or brief teaching plan as an outcome of their participation in NFTEP.
  • Upon completion of the Program, members will receive access to $400 for professional expenses (to be spent by June 1) and a certificate from the Provost and the Center acknowledging their participation.

UPCOMING EVENTS

New Faculty program members are expected to attend and write a short reflection on 8 sessions. What counts as one of the sessions? You have a great deal of flexibility, and not all the options are known at this time. You can mix and match from the sources such as CELT, the library, or ALT (see the Word version of the schedule). Please be aware that you are expected to keep a "journal" of responses to sessions that you attend. Details about the project and program reflections notebook are linked below.

On the schedule linked below are sessions on topics that are particularly of interest to this group, at times when it appears that many of you will be able to come. You are particularly encouraged to attend these, because this is an opportunity to network with other new faculty/grad students. Members of the program last semester said this was one of the most valuable aspects of the program.

Please RSVP 3 days in advance to Alicia at mille226@muohio.edu so we will know how much food to order.

All meetings in Shriver Center are 1 hour.
