two courses on the MU Hamilton campus, and was mentored by Shannon
Maxwell.

Jessica Donn taught
Personality at NKU, and has been mentored by Perilou Goddard.
Professional development series
Members of the APA PFF group have attended the speakers series
sponsored by the University PFF learning community. In the fall, Milt Cox (Director of Teaching Effectiveness
programs) gave a presentation on “Teaching Portfolios,” and Mark McBride, Director of Faculty
Development spoke on “Technology and Teaching.” This semester, Sally Lloyd, Director of Women’s Studies led a
discussion on, “Multiculturalism in the Classroom,” and Sara McInerney,
Assistant to the Arts & Science Dean, spoke on “Advising Undergraduate
Students.”
Jessica Donn attended the APA pre-conference workshop on
Developing Teachers of Psychology in August She says, “Attending the Developing
Teachers of Psychology APA preconference workshop was a particularly valuable
opportunity, where we focused on articulating a teaching philosophy, setting
learning objectives, and designing delivery of instruction and assessments to
reach those objectives. My PFF experience has helped me examine my own
philosophy of
teaching, expanded the methods I have available for instruction and evaluation, and has allowed me to increase my confidence and ability in the classroom. “
APA- PFF scholars at teaching conferences Members of the APA PFF group gave two presentations at Mid America
Conference on Teaching of Psychology conferences in October. Jennifer Naylor, Zachary Birchmeier, and
Cecilia Shore presented “Developing a Sense of Identity and Authority as a
Beginning Teacher” Mid America Conference on Teaching of Psychology and “Surviving and Thriving in Grad School” .
Tri-State APA PFF Psychology Symposium
The Third Annual Tri-State
Symposium was held January 31, 2003.
Some partner undergrads arrived early for lab tours. There were 7 posters, representing the work
of 9 undergrad authors. We were
delighted that two other undergraduates also attended. In breakout sessions, partner undergrads
met with Miami grad students and doctoral faculty about graduate programs. Partner faculty (Shannon Maxwell of MU-H,
Tim Lawson of MSJ, Kathy Milar and Michael Jackson of Earlham, Jeff Smith, Mark
Bargett and Doug Krull of NKU, Beth Uhler of MU-Middletown) talked with grad
students about “Wearing more than one hat—Integrating teaching and
scholarship.” Zachary Birchmeier led a
session for partner and doctoral faculty on “The Virtual Subject Pool: Tools
for Conducting Research via the Internet.”
The symposium was sponsored for the second year by a grant from the
national Psi Chi organization. Thanks
to everyone for participating!
