Graduate Student Teaching Enhancement Program (GSTEP)

Purposes

" to promote the effectiveness of graduate students as teachers at Miami University, thus enhancing their overall productivity and satisfaction
" to provide foundational skills for graduate students who may seek an academic career
" to create interdisciplinary connections and community among graduate students at MU
" to support the undergraduate teaching mission of Miami by enhancing the effectiveness of the instruction they receive from graduate students

“ I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed my experience in GSTEP. Now that I serve as an instructor at the Miami Hamilton campus, I am very grateful for participating in this wonderful and extremely helpful program. I feel prepared and equipped to begin my teaching career because of the seminars and workshops I attended and the resources I was given while I participated in GSTEP during spring semester. Once again, I wanted to thank you for providing the great opportunity of GSTEP.”   Grad student from FSW

UPCOMING EVENTS
There are two different levels of membership in the grad student program: Core members need to attend 8 sessions, Affiliates need only to do 4. What counts as one of the sessions? You have a great deal of flexibility, and not all the options are known at this time. You can mix and match from the sources listed in the Word version of the schedule. Please be aware that you are expected to keep a "journal" of responses to sessions that you attend. Details about the project and program reflections notebook are in the GSTEP syllabus, downloadable from the link below.

A list will be posted below of sessions on topics that are particularly of interest to this group, at times when it appears that many of you will be able to come. You are particularly encouraged to attend these, because this is an opportunity to network with other new faculty/grad students. Members of the program last semester said this was one of the most valuable aspects of the program.

Please RSVP 3 days in advance to Alicia at mille226@muohio.edu so we will know how much food to order.

All meetings in Shriver Center are 1 hour.
