Research interests: Low vision processes, particularly pattern masking. I use psychophysical data from human subjects to try to determine how the visual system responds to very simple stimuli, and how these responses change based on adjacent or overlaid patterns. This research can help us determine how the visual system is working at very low levels, how these processes are affected by additional stimuli in the visual field, and how we integrate or segregate patterns in space. Applications include camouflage, artificial vision systems, improving conditions for abnormal vision, and many others.

Teaching interests: See CV.

Other interests: Putt-putt, camping, music, literature, philosophy, public radio, my friends and family, traveling, and being outside.
