Undergraduate Students
Claire Meikle started conducting summer research in the Global Change Limnology Lab as a junior in high school. She is currently a sophomore at Miami University focusing on how host-parasite interactions between Daphnia dentifera and Metschnikowia bicuspidata are affected by UV.
In summer 2011, Claire received a USS award, providing funding and research credit for her to study the effects of UV on an amphibian chytrid as well as field sampling of aquatic parasites in the Beartooth Mountains.
As a freshman, Megan Jashinski began exploring research opportunities in the lab through the FYRE program. Now, with a year of research experience under her belt, she is looking at the potential for development of a hypolimnetic refuge for zooplankton in a lake with declining transparency.
Kate Hackett's independent research project is closely associated with the IGERT program.
She is comparing daily and seasonal changes in light attenuation in an alpine (Heart) and subalpine (Beartooth) lake, using data collected from a mobile buoy.
Meryl Ethridge, who joined the lab in Fall 2010, leads our lab's counting efforts of summer zooplankton samples, assists with live cultures, and routinely conducts analyses of field UV profiles.
