| On the right is a print, probably hand colored, of Tsar Michael Romanov's wedding procession inside the Moscow Kremlin. The illustrations in this book highlight the various wedding festivities. The reign of Michael Romanov, who ascended the throne at the age of 16, ended the Time of Troubles, the period of internal and external strife which began with the death of Ivan the Terrible's son, Feodor I. Selected by an assembly of princes, boyars, and church officials, Tsar Michael restored internal stability and subdued the Polish and Swedish invaders. The Romanov family was the last line of tsars, and ended with the assassination of Nicholas II by the Bolsheviks in 1918. | ||
