Fuel cell, nanoscale materials, surface chemistry and molecular electronics

Research in the Zou group focuses on four multidisciplinary inter-related areas.

1). Electrocatalysis of nanoparticles - Unraveling the particle structure and reactivity relationships

2). Surface electrochemistry - Understanding the adsorption and reactions at the electrochemical interfaces by using surface vibrational spectroscopies and scanning probe microscopies

3). Nanoscale materials - Synthesis, characterization and application of various metal and metal oxide nanomaterials

4). Molecular electronics - Understand how the molecular structure affects the electron transport properties

Students working in the Zou group will have hands on experience on several of the following techniques: electrochemical methods, surface vibrational spectroscopy (SERS and surface infra red), UV-Vis, Fluorescence, scanning probe microscopy (STM and AFM), electron microscopy (TEM and SEM), X-ray diffraction, e-beam lithography, thermal vapor deposition, etc.  We welcome devoted and self-motivated graduate and undergraduate students to join us.
